An hour on the forestry road that climbs the Azuga Valley, starting right at the edge of town. The gradient is gentle and the track wide enough to get used to the machine without having to worry about the terrain. It does not reach any of the mountain cabins — you ride up the valley as far as the hour allows and come back down the same way. This is the one to pick if you want to find out whether you enjoy riding an ATV before paying for a longer tour, or if you only have a morning free.

The longest of the easy trails: three hours, a steady climb to 1162 metres, no technical sections. Cabana Ștevia has never been modernised, and that is precisely why the ride is worth it — you eat whatever is cooked there that day, soup, roast meat, local dairy. Meals are ordered in advance and paid separately. This is the trail to pick when you are riding with someone who has never driven before, or with a group whose experience varies widely.

The trail follows the Azuga Valley well past the stretch covered by the one-hour ride, then climbs through dense forest to a former communist-era hunting lodge known locally as the Ceaușescu Villa. It is three and a half hours there and back, with rough ground in places and a few sections where the pace drops right down. The building is seen from the outside; you do not go in. Along the way the guide talks through what is known about the place — it is not a managed site with signs and opening hours, just a building left standing in the forest, and that is half of what makes the ride worth it.

The climb to Susai changes underfoot several times: stony stretches, mud after rain, short steep pitches, alternating with wider sections through spruce forest. At 1400 metres the view opens towards the Bucegi and the Baiu mountains, and the cabin is one of the destinations locals have been walking to for decades. On an ATV the climb takes two and a half hours instead of a day. You can stop at the cabin for a traditional meal, ordered in advance and paid separately. The guide sets the pace to suit the group, so the trail works without prior experience — but it is not one you ride on autopilot.

Four and a half hours up to 1487 metres, over ground that not every vehicle handles: steep climbs, churned-up track, narrow sections through forest. At the top is a working sheepfold — sheep, shepherds, cheese, urdă and caș made on site, not a reconstruction laid on for visitors. The stop lasts around half an hour, long enough to see how the place runs and buy something straight from the source. The guide assesses the group before departure and suggests a different trail if the level does not match.
